Technology Journeys

Programs taken from concept to pilot line and clinical-stage. Each one is a multi-year integration of physics, fabrication, sensing, and systems thinking.

Photonics, Sensing & Wearable Integration

Evanostics: silicon-photonics biosensor program from concept to clinical-stage

Tabletop silicon-photonics biosensor with four converging workstreams; the post-foundry surface-engineering chain later moved into a wearable at SiPhox

Evanostics, 2014–2021. A saliva-based diagnostic platform built across four parallel workstreams that converged at the interfaces. Eight granted US patents.

Corium: MicroCor and MicroJet, two wearable drug-delivery platforms

Concept-to-Phase-1A dissolving microneedle patch, and an Edison-Award piezo-driven needle-free injector

Corium International, 2007–2014. Two distinct wearable drug-delivery platforms in the same engineering portfolio: MicroCor (dissolving microneedle patch, Phase 1 and Phase 1A clinical trials, contributed to IPO) and MicroJet (piezo-driven needle-free injector, 2010 Edison Silver Medal). Different technology stacks; same wearable form factor; both 0-to-1.

Rectifying random motion with surface microstructure

Roughness gradients, Feynman's ratchet, and engineering directionality from random vibration

Four years at the University of Washington answering one question: given random vibrational energy, can the surface itself bias that energy into directional droplet transport? Result: a Langmuir paper (400+ citations), the ratchet idea presented at Transducers 2007 and later expanded into an Advanced Materials cover article (2012), and the scaling-analysis-first method I would carry into every industrial program afterward.

IIT Bombay Microelectronics: cleanroom, electroporation, and India's first BioMEMS program

The formative years where the first-principles habit and the multi-strand program methodology were built

PhD and research-associate years at IIT Bombay (1999–2005). Cleanroom commissioning, in-flow single-cell electroporation in partnership with the Cancer Research Institute Mumbai, and helping my advisor build what became India's first BioMEMS program.
